I love Mad Men on AMC. I set aside each Sunday night to watch it with my husband, and it’s one of the few shows that I’ll purchase the DVD sets for, so I can see all the extras.
Extras are what the team behind Mad Men’s Facebook page offer. They post scenes from the show the day after an episode airs (with appropriate spoiler warnings) and exclusive photos. Did you wonder what the gossip about Happy Rockefeller was all about? Or are you curious about the fashions? Links to these blog posts appear on the Facebook wall. (Hint: click the Filters link on the wall to show just official content, just content from fans, or both.)
On top of all the great official content, using Facebook allows fans of the show to add their own commentary and images, including scans of early 1960s era advertising. Fun, right?![]()
Official updates appear in my Facebook newsfeed, so I don’t have to go searching for them (which, to be honest, I probably wouldn’t do.) They’re short, fun diversions.
Mad Men on Facebook allows fans to participate without leaving the site, but it doesn’t replace the official AMC Mad Men blog, instead supplementing it and driving traffic to it. It’s a great example of how to use Facebook to reach fans (customer? clients?) in a non-obtrusive but effective way.
