You may or may not have noticed that things look a little different around here. One of the things about being a web designer is you tend to use your own site to try things out. In this case I built this new design off the premium Thesis theme framework.
There are pros and cons to using a premium theme. I think a lot of them are too complex for the average user. They sell themselves as an easy, inexpensive way to have a feature-filled site, but novices find them confusing and frustrating.
For people like me, with theme-building experience, buying and using premium themes might seem like throwing money away. But after going back and forth over it I finally dove in and bought Thesis. While it’s not perfect, I’m amazed at how well built it is. It’s not going to work for every site, but it does handle the layout and typography issues that often get in the way, and let me focus on design and functionality, the things most of my clients hire me for.
I’ve got two more sites in the works using Thesis. Stay tuned to see how they turn out!
